All RVPT drivers have a full, current PCV licence so have been trained to same standard as professional bus drivers (and many are current drivers or drove professionally in the past). However, it is always useful to be reminded of current best practice and to ensure that everyone is comfortable with the different requirements os the varied buses in our collection.

We therefore require all our drivers to attend periodic refresher days when we review vehicle checking procedures, safety issues related to the buses and any new or revised legislation which may affect the way we have to drive. These refresher days are led by a very recently retired Stagecoach driving instructor and a highly¬†experienced Ribble / Stagecoach driver. The first stage is to review the pre-driving checks which have to be undertaken and then to physically examine the bus using the check list. The participants then take turns driving the buses so the ‘instructors’ can provide advice on technique.

This is all done with the aim of ensuring high standards are maintained and that we are all up to date with current requirements. On this occasion the buses used were Leyland National 831 and Tiger Cub 452.
