Our vintage bus running day and display in Morecambe has been lucky with the weather ever since we launched it and this year was possibly the best ever. It was warm and sunny all day so was ideal for the launch of our new open top service from Heysham Village to Happy Mount Park. Our services were busy all day and plenty of people took the opportunity to have a close look at buses parked on the promenade and on the Festival Market. Most vehicles in the RVPT collection were in service or on display and we had a good selection of visiting buses, some of which were in service.
Among the ‘new’ attractions this year was Ribble open top VR 1995 which joined our collection last year. Over the winter it was refurbished and painted into a livery once carried by Ribble open top buses of the 1970s/1980s. This was its first public appearance in its new guise. Away from Ribble we had a first visit by newly restored Morecambe & Heysham Regent 111 73. This Weymann bodied example was parked alongside regular participant 69.
It proved to be an enjoyable day for both our team and for all the public who attended. Reminder that next year we will be celebrating the centenary of Ribble with our running day based in part at Morecambe football ground. Our buses will be out and about at various events during the summer with our next major event at Lytham in August. Details will be given shortly on the events page of this website.
